The Judging Mindset Who are we to judge? Nobody is perfect. People are judged all the time for the color of their skin, race, and beliefs why is this the case? So many times are minds become fixed for that split second and you realize what you did the second you start feeling guilty. Many times itââ¬â¢s a single perspective parents teach and spreads to their kids impacting many generations to have that fixed mindset (where people believe their basic qualities are everything and thereââ¬â¢s no room for improve whatever skills you have at that point are all you have) (Dweck). Unlike in a growth mindset (where people believe they can improve their skills by putting forth the effort to improve.) (Dweck). In the movie Blindside telling a true story about a football player Michael Oher many scenes show case how fixed mindsets play a huge role in Michaelââ¬â¢s struggles. Multiple people judge Michael as ââ¬Å"a huge black manâ⬠when they know nothing about him just his skin color and appearance. Michael Oher goes through multiple challenges so he can try to better his life when the Tuohy family found him walking on the side of the rode one night so he could be warm because heââ¬â¢s been bouncing around foster homes and usually sleeps on peoples couches. Michael comes from a family of eleven, a father who was in and out of jail, and a mother that was addicted to drugs but this didnââ¬â¢t stop the Tuohys from helping Michael even though both sides have extremely different backgrounds and mindsets. The Tuohys have money and are able to get things that Michael has never had for example in the movie Blindside Michael was poor in poverty so he didnââ¬â¢t have essentials to live so when Leigh Anne Tuohy got him his own room in their house the scene shows them both in his new room with a fresh new bed, dresser, nightstands you name it. Leigh Anne starts talking about what she got for him in his new room explaining how difficult it was to get a bed frame for him and Michael says ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve never had one beforeâ⬠with Leigh Anneââ¬â¢s quick reply being ââ¬Å"What? A room to yourselfâ⬠then with Michael replying ââ¬Å"No. A Bed.â⬠Leigh Anne lost for words for a moment finds a smile and says ââ¬Å"well you have one nowâ⬠then rushing out of the room into hers to sit down and take in what she just heard. This scene shows the difference in lifestyles these two have Leigh having everything she has ever needed and Michael not having basic living essentials because Michael grew up so poor he wasnââ¬â¢t able to have something as simple as a bed. The pure emotions this scene attacks it makes you feel for Michael that up to that point heââ¬â¢s never had a bed making you want to see him succeed even more even though he had a terrible up bringing you want to see the best for him. Nobody has a fixed mindset about Michael anymore heââ¬â¢s accomplished so much after having so little and becoming an idol for kids that grew up the same way he did and help them realize the mindset that they arenââ¬â¢t stuck have a growth mindset and fight through all the bad in your life to earn a life that is better for yourself. In another scene when Michael starts attending school at Briarcrest Christian School he has to attend classes to catch up on his credits to graduate (he had a .06 GPA when he started at Briarcrest) as he struggled in his classes the scene shows the teacher talking about his performance in each of their classes when one of them pulls a piece of paper that Michael crumbled up and threw away on it titled ââ¬Å"White Wallsâ⬠where he wrote ââ¬Å"I look and I see white everywhere. White walls, white floors and a lot of white people. The teachers do not know, I have no idea of anything they are talking about. I do not want to listen to anyone especially the teachers. They are giving homeworks and expecting me to do the problems on my own. I have never done homework in my life. I go to the bathroom and look in the mirror and say ââ¬Å"this is not Michael Oher.â⬠As the teachers react to their colleagueââ¬â¢s reading of Michaels writing they all start to put their heads down in shame and pity. The thought they shouldââ¬â¢ve done more to help him and hearing heââ¬â¢s never done homework shows he needs their help and guidance more than other students. The teachers mindset towards Michael was different then they had on other students they knew he has struggled before thatââ¬â¢s why heââ¬â¢s in these classes in the first place they shouldââ¬â¢ve been helping him more so he could be more comfortable I this new environment for him. Throughout the rest of the movie it shows Michael studying more with his teachers and itââ¬â¢s helping him. Michael then has his GPA increase to a 2.5 from his original 0.06 just enough to graduate. The scene shows the teachers now with smiles on their faces because grew to like Michael and now graduating they realized they had fixed mindsets toward Michael then learning to be happy for his successes which gave them a better understanding of who Michael and not just the black kid that nobody knows how to talk to also they grew as teachers teaching someone such as Michael from a drastically different lifestyle then the rest of the students attending Briarcrest so the teachers have to change what theyââ¬â¢ve always done to try to help Michael. In this scene in shows how differently Michael was being portrayed nobody was helping him and setting him up for failure but after the teachers and coaches starting seeing him improve his skills they started to adore him for conquering all his challenges to get his high school diploma also a football scholarship to Ole Miss (University of Mississippi) watching Michael grow from the black kid that nobody wanted to be around to a being loved around the country as an elite athlete. This movie shows a much bigger issue Michael was given a chance to make a huge difference in his life and with hard work, dedication, and support from his new family the Tuohys who took him in as one of their own. Michael went through so many struggles through the film from the racism, gangs, violence, drugs and still overcame all of it to become a professional football player. This occupation provides bread and butter to about 500 million people world wide (FAC, 2009). Fishing The term ââ¬Å"fishingâ⬠relates to catching fish, or more appropriately put, catching aquatic animals. It has become a complete industry now, bagging a per capita of 21.8 Kgs (FAO, 2005). This occupation involves various kinds of fishing. The most common type of fishing done by fishermen to collect fish, as an occupation is done by use of a net, called netting. A huge net is used in catching fish. This occupation also involves storing the fish, packing it and shipping it to the markets or companies which in turn sell them to the common consumer. Every occupation has a set of tools required to complete or process the task at hand. Similarly there are some basic requirements for the fishing profession. Different people use different tools depending on the finances at hand. For example, third world countries still use the traditional methods of fish farming where as the developed countries have mechanized this profession just like they have brought machines in all aspects of life in the post industrial revolution era. The more the methods are of old school, the more danger it brings to the lives of the fishers, a point that will be time and again mentioned in this report. Primary Hazards for a Fisher People working this occupation have extremely high rate of fatality rate, especially for young persons under the age of 18. This is the foremost hazard of this occupation as nothing can be more brutal to a fisherman, than to lose his life while on the job. Fishers work in a very wild and unpredictable work environment and face-off with an alarming number of dangers on their jobs. One reason for this high rate is the weather of the seas. This is such a problem, which cannot be negated with the right training as the weather is an uncontrolled factor, especially when youââ¬â¢re on a vessel in the sea. There are no safe doors out of the storms, hence causing a lot of life lost in this profession. (NIOSH, 2001) In the time period of 6 years, 1992 to 1997, CFOI has claimed that 440 US fishers have lost their lives (NIOSH 2001). The fatality rate in these 6 years have bee n calculated to be 161.6/1000 workers. This accounts to the highest fatality rate among all occupation in the world in those 6 years (Fosbroke et al, 1997). Not only have the fishers at risk, the ship captains also had a certain high death rate compared to the captains that sail other kinds of shipping in the seas. The team members do not simply assigned tasks on wish of any senior manager or on the wish of the team member, but an intensive work is carried out in which certain characteristics are taken into account that establish whether a particular team member possesses the required skills essential for meeting the objectives of assigned task. After developing a role for an individual team member, the senior management or team leader attempts to incorporate the tasks and goals of the individual team member with the aggregate goals and tasks of team. This is the ultimate objective of team building. If there is no connection between team goals and the goals of an individual team member, it would be hard for the team to continue performing and obtaining the desired team objectives. However, it may not denied that the individual members of the team may be performing well and meeting their in dividual tasks and objectives. In the absence of achieving team goals, it would be useless to develop team and work collectively. Teams are built to attain synergistic effect from the aggregate contribution of all team members. The concept of synergy can be defined as an output which is more than the numerical total of units. Keeping this view in mind, team is expected to outperform the aggregate total of their individual performance and output and at the same time, the team is required to establish that the intended team objectives are being served. Team encompasses diversity, team size, personality and team leadership. These are the fundamental aspects normally carried out by team. A team is collection of few individuals who collectively makes up a team. In this team, the presence of diversity cannot be ruled out. This could be in the form of racial diversity, age diversity and so on. Subsequent to that, team size is another factor that influences on the aggregate function of team . There exists no ideal number representing an absolute team size. However, team size is largely built up on the basis of its aggregate team objectives. Simultaneously, the role of personality in team cannot be ruled out. Some personalities are introvert and others are extrovert. Each one has its own strengths and weaknesses that directly or indirectly affect team spirit and team members as well. In the following parts of the paper, a distinction between team and group has been provided along with practical work reflection segment. It is followed by diversity portion. After completing this part, team size part has been included. Subsequent to that, personality segment has been incorporated. Your Better Half:Hemisphere Specialization of Language You probably write with a particular hand, kick a ball with a particular foot, peer through a telescope with a particular eye, and raise the telephone receiver to a particular ear. It is thought that this has to do more with your brain and "neurological wiring" than habit. But what does this mean? You have probably heard of hemispheric lateralization- hemispheric referring to the division of the brain into left and right halves, and lateralization describing the brain's tendency to make the two halves specialize in controlling different functions (1). Furthermore, the right side of your body is controlled by your left brain while the left side of your body is controlled by your right side of the brain. The connection between the hemispheres is the corpus callosum, a thick band of nerves. One of the most common beliefs is that the left hemisphere controls symbolic processing and rational thinking whereas the right hemisphere is more artistic, intuitive and creative (2). Many myths have emerged from this idea (5). We often hear students complain about being "right-brained in a left brained world" and others claiming that they do not perform well in a particular subject because they are either right-brained or left-brained. I remember being told that you should listen to lectures with your "dominant" side of my brain. In fact the idea has become so infused in today's society that we see several prevalent views of the left brain/right brain theory. A couple years back there was a car advertisement for Saab, which claimed the car as a "car for the left side of your brain." With so many simplified and popularized views of brain lateralization the task of sorting the fantasy from reality is daunting and not so easy. The big question remains standing- does hemispheric asymmetries exist and if so to what extent can we categorize functions as right or left brain, looking specifically at language? At first glance the human brain appears symmetrical, leading one to wonder how it is that behavioral asymmetries emerge from biological identical hemispheres. Yet there are many cognitive and behavioral asymmetries in humans documented, many of which can be attributed to one hemisphere of the brain or the other (1) (5). Yet before we explore hemisphere specialization it is interesting to note that the left and right hemisphere have shown to function independently.

Collision Theory
Collision Theory The theory proposes that molecules must collide in a particular way with a certain amount of energy to ultimately form a new product. This is because only a select portion of molecules during a reaction have enough energy and the correct orientation to break any existing bonds to form new ones at the moment of impact with other reactants. The very minimum amount of energy needed for this process to occur is referred to as activation energy.Collision theory explains why reaction rates differ for alternate reactions and also how chemical reactions occur in the first place. During a reaction, collision theory states that the higher the concentration of the reactants, the faster the rate of the reaction. More reactants leads to more effective collisions between the particles to create a new product whereas a higher concentration of products is associated with a slower reaction rate. An increase in temperature can also speed up the reaction rate.Temperature is a measure o f the average amount of kinetic energy in a system so a higher temperature leads to a higher average kinetic energy of the molecules in the reaction, therefore, more collisions occur; a faster rate of reaction. However, there is a limit in some reactions as some reactants/products can be destroyed or denatured by a temperature that exceeds its optimum conditions. In reactions involving a gas, pressure becomes a factor. Increasing the pressure will increase the chance of molecules colliding as there will be less space for them to move thus speeding up the rate of reaction.Pressure has the same effect on reactions as concentration because both factors alter the density of the particles in the reaction ââ¬â the higher the more dense. In reactions involving solid reactants, to increase the rate of reaction, they should be ground up into smaller pieces (powder) as it will increase its surface area; exposing more particles to the other reactant. As more particles are exposed, the reac tion rate will escalate as more collisions can occur.
